Happy New Year 2024!

It’s been a while since I updated things around here and well, today is the day 🙂

Music news:

I will be releasing my solo album soon. It has been finished long enough now I think!

Not Your Average Worker Bees released a vide to celebrate International Drone Day and we have released some new music too! You can check out the music here on BandCamp and the video is below:

It was a big year for the Canadian Electronic Ensemle this year. Dr. Alexa Woloshyn published her book called “An Orchestra at my Fingertips. A History of the Canadian Electronic Ensemble”. You can see the festivities and performance on this video. Trust me when I say it was much better being there in person!

New Release!

Today I am releasing the live studio performance I created for the Ambient PiNG’s 2022 Drone Day Celebration on Twitch! I overlayed a video performance that was recorded live while watching and listening to the live studio performance on my YouTube channel and if you like it, and would like to support me in my artistic endeavours, you can purchase the track as Pay What You Want from my Bandcamp page.

Happy New Year!

Well, its been a while and I hope you are all keeping well!

It is now 2022 and it’s been a very long time since my last update. Here are some things in the works for the coming year:

New Album from Not Your Average Worker Bees. David Sutherland and I have been getting together, virtually, on a regular basis and are quite enjoying this creative process! We have a new album that is almost ready for release and likely several individual tracks coming in the near future! Stay tuned for further announcements on this exciting news!

New Solo Album. I have had a new solo album ready to go since the end of 2019. Why the delay? I just never felt the time was right. Now, I just need to tie up some loose ends and get it out there. The Smokey Quotient is an album of electronic music combining elements of experimental improvisation and more planned music making techniques. It was inspired by my love of whisky from the Isla region of Scotland.

Some new things coming from a photography perspective too! In 2022 I intend to setup an Etsy shop to offer prints for sale beginning with some of my Kallitype prints. I generally tone these prints in Gold which gives them a nice cool deep black and white look but also means that these prints should last as long as the paper they are printed on. In other words, if you take care with them, they will theoretically last for millennia. I also intend to offer Black and White prints in standard Silver Gelatine (with Silver Nitrate) either toned or untoned and I am also working toward offering prints in Silver Gelatine using Silver Chloride which are hand coated for a more unique look. Stay tuned for those! In the meantime check out the Photos menu for my digital and analogue photos.

Parallax by Paul Stillwell – Album Release!

I am really happy to announce the release of my first solo album, Parallax!  This is an album that has been a year in the making.  Each song was performed live in a single take in order to preserve the spontaneity I love that only comes from live improvisation.  I hope you enjoy it!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year from Intrepita!

Today we launched our new store and published our first sample based instrument!  It’s called RO2.  More than just samples, this is a sample based instrument that you can use for creating your own sounds (or using ours) in your own compositions! As we create more we will try to ensure that  each will be available in Ableton Live Sampler, Native Instruments Kontakt, and generic/Acid formats (Acid format provides the ability for us to add loop points that most modern samplers will understand).

RO2 was created using an analog modular oscillator. 73 samples per wave form (C0-C6, sine, square, saw and triangle) were recorded at 24 bit / 96 kHz so you get all the analog goodness!  Everything from acid and dub basses to searing leads and ambient pads.  The Ableton version of the pack provides 5 instruments and 1 effect rack.  The Komplete version provides an instrument interface with all controls exposable for automation in your DAW!

The second instrument will be called Singing Bowls.  Based on 24 bit / 96 kHz samples of Tibetan Singing Bowls this pack brings to you tuned instruments based on different performance techniques: Soft mallet strike, small stick strike, soft dowel strike, hard dowel strike, rubbed, and bowed.  Each bowl has unique characteristics in terms of fundamental frequencies, harmonics, and sustain.  Different performance techniques accentuate the different characteristics of each bowl.

We are still working on the final layout of the site and the details of the second instrument. But the first one is complete and ready for you!  Please have a listen to the demo tracks below.  All sounds with the exception of drums were made with RO2!
